Eligibility Criteria at BIUSM
Securing your admission at Bridgetown International University School of Medicine requires meeting our merit-based eligibility criteria, which focus on your comprehensive profile as a future medical professional.

Eligibility Criteria For
The 5.5-Year MD Program
Students who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria for medical school may start in the Pre-Medical phase, which spans four semesters.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Completion of higher secondary school (10+2) or equivalent with a overall average minimum GPA of 2.5 or Grade “C” in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Requires submission of official transcripts and certificates.
- At least 16 years old by December 31 of the admission year. Students under 18 must submit a notarised affidavit.
- A personal statement outlining motivations for pursuing medicine and educational and professional goals.
- For non English speaking students, proof of English proficiency through TOEFL (60) or IELTS (6.0), taken within the last 2 years, if applicable.
- Two letters of recommendation.
Eligibility Criteria For
The 4-Year MD Program
Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree or equivalent can join the Basic Sciences phase of our 4-year MD program, which includes six semesters of coursework and seventy six weeks of clinical clerkship.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Completion of BIUSM Pre-Medical Program or a Bachelor’s degree in Natural or Life Sciences or equivalent course from recognised institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or Grade “C.”
- Proof of secondary school completion or its equivalent by submitting official transcripts and certificates with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or Grade “C” in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
- For non English speaking students, proof of English proficiency through TOEFL (60) or IELTS (6.0), taken within the last 2 years, if applicable.
- A personal statement describing motivation for studying medicine and educational & professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation.
Eligibility Criteria For
For Transfer Students
Students from a WHO recognised, IMED-listed medical school may apply for advanced standing, provided they meet all BIUSM admission requirements.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Official transcripts sent directly from the previous medical school to the admission office.
- No student will be granted direct admission to the Clinical Sciences phase of the program.
- Minimum of 30 transferable credit hours or 45 hours of coursework.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- A Personal Statement that demonstrates the student’s motivations behind pursuing a career in medicine as well as highlighting the student’s educational and professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from the previous institution.
Eligibility Criteria
For Transfer Students
Students from a WHO-recognised, IMED-listed medical school may apply for advanced standing, provided they meet all BIUSM admission requirements.
Transfer eligibility requirements include:
- Official transcripts sent directly from the previous medical school to the admission office.
- No student will be granted direct admission to the Clinical Sciences phase of the program.
- Minimum of 30 transferable credit hours or 45 hours of coursework.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- A Personal Statement that demonstrates the student’s motivations behind pursuing a career in medicine as well as highlighting the student’s educational and professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from the previous institution.
